The Mendoza-Los Andes Bioceanic Corridor megaproject, promoted by Chilean company Beler S.A. and Singapore-based International Nusantara Investment Pte., is gaining momentum with an estimated $9.6 billion investment. The initiative aims to connect Mendoza, Argentina, with the Valparaíso coast in Chile through a 420-kilometer double-track electrified railway for both cargo and passenger transport. Key components include a 54-kilometer tunnel between Uspallata and Los Andes, a cargo modal center in Longotoma, and a deep-water submarine port in La Ligua commune, primarily for grain exports from Argentina, Brazil, and other regional countries. The project is currently engaging with Chilean authorities for approvals and financing. If completed, it would significantly reduce transport times and costs for South American exports to Asia, bypassing the Panama Canal.
