King Felipe Visits Evacuees as Wildfire in Madrid and Ávila Is Contained

Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited a sports center in Villamanta, Madrid, on Sunday to meet residents evacuated from Villa del Prado, Aldea del Fresno, and other southwestern Madrid communities affected by a major wildfire. The King praised the coordination among emergency services, stating, 'United, we can face any risk.' Lieutenant Colonel Alfonso Arribas, head of the First Intervention Battalion of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), reported that all fronts of the fire affecting Madrid and Ávila are contained, though several active hot spots remain. Castile and León President Alfonso Fernández Mañueco said the fire was caused by negligence. Over 121,000 hectares have been affected, with thousands evacuated.
