Pakistan, China sign $440m pharmaceutical agreements
Pakistan and China have signed pharmaceutical agreements worth $440 million, as announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The agreements aim to bolster Pakistan's pharmaceutical sector and reduce reliance on imports. Sharif emphasized that the government's reforms are focused on building a self-reliant economy. He urged participants of the URAAN scheme to contribute to Pakistan's prosperity and directed expediting the implementation of the ease of doing business Act 2025. The deals were signed during a ceremony attended by Chinese officials, marking a deepening of economic ties between the two countries. This follows a series of bilateral agreements under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Global Impact
Economically, the agreements strengthen Pakistan's pharmaceutical self-sufficiency, reducing its trade deficit and import dependency. Politically, they reinforce the China-Pakistan strategic partnership, with implications for regional influence in South Asia.
