Farmers Protest Against Vindhya Expressway Over Land Acquisition and Flood Risk
Farmers in Chandoli district, Uttar Pradesh, are protesting the Vindhya Expressway project for the fourth consecutive day. Hundreds of farmers, including dozens from Adasd village near the Bihar border, have refused to surrender their fertile land for the project. They argue that the expressway, if built along the Karmanasa River, will cause annual flooding and destroy their crops. The Indian Farmers' Union spokesperson Manidev Chaturvedi accused district officials of attempting to acquire land covertly. Several villages have turned back officials. The protest is now gaining support from other farmer organizations and political parties.
Global Impact
The protest is a regional issue with limited global impact. It may slow the expressway's construction, affecting local economic development and transport connectivity.
