France Approves Missile Production in Ukraine; Cruise Missiles, Interceptors, and Glide Bombs to Be Manufactured Locally
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday that France will license Ukraine to manufacture missiles and bombs on its own soil, including Aster-30 air defense interceptors, AASM glide bombs, and SCALP-EG cruise missiles. The announcement was made at the 'Coalition of the Willing' summit in Paris, a group led by France and the UK working on security guarantees for Ukraine. Macron stated that the decision will boost Ukraine's defense production capacity and accelerate weapons manufacturing. He also said that France and Italy will deliver additional air defense batteries and interceptors to Ukraine in the coming weeks. Additionally, 16 Rafale fighter jets are expected to be delivered to Ukraine by 2028-29. Russia has opposed this initiative.
Global Impact
Politically, this decision escalates Western involvement in the Ukraine conflict by enabling local production of advanced weaponry, potentially provoking a stronger Russian response. Economically, it creates a new defense manufacturing ecosystem in Ukraine, attracting investment and boosting local industry.
