Ebola outbreak death toll rises

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, declared in May, has resulted in over 600 deaths. The World Health Organization has been coordinating response efforts, including vaccination campaigns and containment measures. The outbreak is concentrated in North Kivu and Ituri provinces, areas affected by conflict, complicating access for health workers. This is the second-largest Ebola outbreak in history, following the 2014-2016 West Africa epidemic. The WHO has not yet declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, but the death toll continues to rise.

Global Impact

The Ebola outbreak in DRC has significant humanitarian and economic dimensions. The high death toll and ongoing transmission strain local health infrastructure and international aid resources.
