Serbia Battles Four Major Wildfires, Accepts EU Assistance

Serbia is currently battling four major wildfires across the country, including in the Deliblatska Peščara (Deliblato Sands), on the Stolovi mountain, near the Maglič fortress below Troglav mountain, and in parts of the Bojnik municipality. Luka Čaušić, assistant minister and head of the Sector for Emergency Situations, confirmed that Serbia has accepted assistance from the European Union through the activated EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The EU has dispatched helicopters to aid in firefighting efforts, particularly in the Deliblatska Peščara area. The Maglič fortress has been successfully defended from the flames. The most critical situation is reported in the Deliblatska Peščara, a large sandy area in Vojvodina, where the fire poses significant threats to local ecosystems and infrastructure. The fires have prompted a coordinated national response, with emergency services working to contain the blazes.
