Bangladesh PM Calls for Strict Measures to Curb River Pollution

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for strict and coordinated measures to prevent river pollution, stating that negligence is unacceptable. During a meeting on the development of the Buriganga River's water and environment held at the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat on Thursday, August 6, he emphasized that river pollution has reached a severe level and that effective action is needed now to ensure accountability to future generations. The meeting discussed the current environmental status of the Buriganga, Turag, Balu, Shitalakhya, and other rivers around Dhaka, along with pollution sources, existing challenges, and long-term solutions. The Prime Minister stressed the need for both formulating an action plan and ensuring its effective implementation.
